A barefoot beach wedding

By Bride and Groom 31 August 2020

Celebrating their special day with no time limits or restrictions was Sarah Terry and Alistair Jacka’s goal so they had to  think outside of the square to come up with a venue to suit.

Enter the helpful team at Time Out Resort, Koonoomoo, who made it possible for the couple to have the waterfront wedding of their dreams and relaxed party atmosphere long into the night.

“We spent a lot of time talking about the sort of wedding we wanted, and one of the main things was not being regulated and being given a finish time,” Sarah said.

“You spend so much money and guests make the effort to travel so far we didn’t want to be told what time to finish up. The beauty of having it there was that guests could go to bed when they wanted or stay and celebrate.”

Just shy of the two-year anniversary of their first meeting the couple said ‘I do’ on a sandy beach on the banks of the Murray River.

Amidst the backdrop of towering red gums a simple green, white and teal colour theme and minimalist decorating style reflected the couple’s love of the river and bush setting and desire for a relaxed, fun day.

Opting to go barefoot for the beach ceremony the bride and groom invited their guests to ditch their shoes, designating a large patch of turf and signage for just that purpose.

The savvy bride bought her dress from a second-hand online store, falling in love with the sheer lace and tan underlay creation, which was paired, at the last minute, with a simple flower crown.

Sarah’s grand entrance, on the back of her dad’s imported Boss Hoss motorbike, gave guests the hint that this wedding day would be a little different.

“The ceremony was at 3pm and because it was daylight savings we wanted to have our photos taken at dusk, so we stayed with our guests until about 6pm and then re-joined them for dinner at 8,” Sarah said.

Games, activities, a photo booth, cocktail hour and pontoon boat cruises along the river kept everyone entertained until the evening marquee reception got under way.

Sarah said their wedding day was like a festival with the collective village of family and friends supplying platters, cob loaves and fruit and helping to serve the meat and salads.

Fireworks lit up the night sky following the speeches, the seven-minute pyrotechnic show a surprise for guests, and the next morning most of the wedding-goers gathered for breakfast to round out a weekend of celebrations.
