On a mission of wanderlust, Frankston’s Hannah Peters and David Westaway ventured out of the city in search of the perfect wedding venue.
The hunt was cut short when they stumbled across Byrchendale in Murchison.
Just a few hours up the highway, the pair had found the best of both worlds; the adventure of a destination wedding without a lot of the hassle.
It ticked all the boxes: it wasn’t too far for guests to travel (they even organised buses to pick up and drop off at their accommodation), David could go for a pre-wedding jetski on Lake Nagambie and they had the freedom to style the venue in the days leading up to the wedding. And days they needed.
Arriving with two trailers of DIY and collected décor, the couple transformed the rustic venue with an earthy palette, lashings of greenery, fresh florals and accents of modern metallics.
“I wanted to do the styling and decorations myself,” Hannah said.
“I spent millions of hours cutting, glueing and painting our MDF zigzagged gold table centres.”
Along with 150 handmade blush napkins, concrete-look plates from Kmart, gold cutlery, terrariums, laser-cut place cards and acrylic signage it came together like a dream.
While the natural vines covering the chapel created a magical ceremony setting, with the help of Simply Stems Boutique Florist this continued into the reception with a hanging greenery installation the centrepiece of the barn.
With plans for a massive South American honeymoon on hold, the couple decided to take advantage of the destination wedding, inviting the bridal party and their partners for a ‘mini mates moon’.
“We spent a week wake boarding, water skiing, paddle boarding, canoeing, kayaking and partying the rest of the week away,” Hannah said.
“With everyone buzzing off all the good vibes made it feel like one huge wedding week.
“We never had that ‘it’s all over so quick’ moment because it didn’t feel like it was.”
