Riverside romance

By Bride and Groom 05 February 2020

Country sporting clubs are special places that bring people together and so it was for Mikayla Hogan and Grant Weeks who have made Colbinabbin their home.

The couple met at the 2010 Golden Square Football Netball Club ball where Grant was a senior footballer and Mikayla’s dad was coaching the under-18 side.

Sparks flew and the rest is history, with the loved-up couple choosing a romantic river front location for their 2018 wedding.

Time-kept traditions

Adhering to tradition, modern bride Mikayla pinned a gorgeous blue cross that once belonged to her grandmother, and a silver charm, which was a gift from her sister, to her bouquet.

The sentimental items represented something old, something new and something blue and will be gorgeous keepsakes for the next generation.

Statement jewellery

Bold statement jewellery is on-trend and Mikayla’s amazing earrings added just the right amount of glamour.

The Mulberry and Grand pieces were perfect accessories for the bride’s Anna Campbell-designed gown and the bridesmaids’ charcoal-coloured Shona Joy dresses.

Cocktail reception

With guest numbers swelling beyond 200, Mikayla and Grant opted for a less-formal cocktail-style reception.

Grazing tables by the waterfront were enjoyed after the ceremony and platters of food circulated throughout the evening creating the relaxed, casual vibe the couple was aiming for.

“We wanted formalities to be finalised early so that everyone could dance, mingle and laugh for as long as possible,” Mikayla said.

River views

The Murray River is a popular wedding destination, with the water and majestic river red gums providing a natural and beautiful backdrop.

It’s also easy to style and the couple opted for chic, deep-red flowers and greenery to bring the location to life.

Shoe style

Forget Cinderella’s glass slipper, our bride Mikayla, who confesses to being “not a shoe person” went for something different in footwear on her wedding day.

Her plain Mollini shoes were taken to the next level by the hand-beaded Anna Campbell foot cuffs – the perfect final touch.
