An elegant winery wedding

By Bride and Groom 16 December 2019

Alysia Calleri and Nathan Reid travelled to Cairns in January 2017 for a week-long holiday, and returned home engaged and ready to start planning their dream wedding celebration with family and friends.

Nathan’s romantic beach-side proposal was a far cry from their planned first date 10 years earlier, which was cancelled after a hair-dyeing attempt went terribly wrong.

Luckily the couple met up again a few days later and have been together ever since.

Special ceremony

Alysia and Nathan said the most memorable part of their special day was the ceremony and seeing each other for the first time was an incredible and unforgettable moment.

“Also saying goodbye to our guests at the end of the night was another highlight. We danced and sung to the classic You’re the Voice by John Farnham whilst making our way around to all the guests on the dance floor,” Alysia said.

“It was a time that cannot be replicated as there was so much love and happiness in the room at that point.”

Classic styling

The stunning location of Mitchelton Winery needed minimal styling and the work of florist Gab Schultz from Petal Dance Floristry really brought the reception venue to life.

Classic black and white signage, menus and place cards, glass candle holders and pops of gold gave an elegant vibe to the occasion, while the stunning bouquets carried by the bride and her  bridesmaids added a special flourish.

Unique keepsake

Guests were encouraged to take photos throughout the reception with a polaroid camera and include them in a guest book with a personal message.

“We now have a beautiful book full of well wishes and some ripper photos,” Alysia said.

Sunset moment

A suggestion by photographer Lisa Nardella to take some time out for a sunset photo shoot has created some lasting memories for Alysia and Nathan.

“This was where we got some of our favourite photos and it was actually nice to have some quiet time with one another,” Alysia said.

“My advice would be to just relax and enjoy every moment of the day – it really does go so fast!”

“Try and be present as much as you can, don’t think too far ahead of what needs to happen next as you will never be able to enjoy the special moments in between.”

Magical music

Songs special to the couple were chosen for Alysia’s walk down the aisle as well as for the first dance as husband and wife.

“We couldn’t go past Perfect by Ed Sheeran as our first dance as the lyrics sum up our relationship perfectly,” Alysia said.

“Nathan surprised me about halfway through the band’s dance set by getting up and joining the band to sing Never Tear Us Apart by INXS. I had no idea he was going to do it and it really got the party going!”
