A destination wedding

By Bride and Groom 16 December 2019

It was a given the beach would be central to Nicole Goggin and Warren (Fred) Batey’s wedding day.

Initial thoughts involved a trip with their five children, but plans quickly morphed into an intimate destination wedding on the NSW north coast.

It was during a long weekend trip Nicole scouted the perfect ceremony spot – The Cove at Cabarita Beach.

“It has that combination of the beach and the ocean but also these big beautiful rocks,” Nicole said.

While much of the planning was done more than 1500km away, the process allowed them to enjoy some mini getaways in the lead-up, and Nicole said Brisbane-based wedding planner and stylist Coco & Confetti helped shape the day of their dreams.

“That was my back-up to make sure it wasn’t too much stress for me,” she said.

“We wanted our guests to feel relaxed. We wanted the atmosphere to be beautifully styled, but effortlessly.”

The result was a bohemian beachside ceremony, with a crisp white tepee arbour, white peacock chairs, bench seats and parasol umbrellas for the guests – all set against the backdrop of the crystal blue ocean, rock face and greenery.

“As a surprise to Fred, I organised a gelato cart,” Nicole said.

“They set up at the top of the staircase, overlooking the most magical view of the beach.

“It was a big hit with everyone and a much-needed refreshment on such a hot day.”

While at the reception, colourful rugs and cushions, lawn games, flowers and candles set the romantic boho vibe.

For Nicole and Fred it was important to spend this happy time with daughters Tori and Madi Goggin and Coco Batey, and sons Diesel Batey and Enrique Goggin, and their 57 guests consisting of only immediate family and their closest friends.

With the ‘save-the-date’ sent out far in advance, the couple gave guests a chance to turn the wedding into a holiday.

Travelling up a week before the big day and continuing with a week-long ‘family moon’, they didn’t just have a single day of celebrations.

“We had a barefoot bowls day planned for the day before but the weather was horrid so we didn’t make it outside to play but we had drinks and platters,” she said.

“It was really great having people around to catch up.”
