A meaningful date

By Bride and Groom 11 October 2019

Most people wouldn’t dream of getting married on Friday 13th but the date had already proved to bring Lauren Rendell and Jacob Atkin good luck.

When Jacob  proposed to Lauren he had already picked out the date for the wedding and the fact that their seven-year anniversary fell on a Friday that year didn’t deter the couple from marrying on their special date.

Marrying on a Friday made finding a venue a little bit easier and the couple fell in love with the location and view at Rich River Golf Club.

“We were very pleased with the venue. The food was ten stars and the staff went above and beyond to make sure the day was perfect,” Lauren said.

The golf club venue meant the guests could enjoy a drink at the bar while the bridal party was busy having photos taken.

Rather than setting a theme they chose to keep things simple and ensure the day was full of fun.

Once Jacob had chosen navy for the suits and the bridesmaids had agreed upon their dresses Lauren chose flowers to work with the colours.

She decided to have artificial flowers created by English Rose in Melbourne so that she would still have them when the day was over.

Neither Jacob or Lauren consider themselves good dancers and were puzzled over what to do for the traditional bridal dance when everyone would be watching.

Their problem was solved when they found that their DJ AtoZ could supply dry ice to create a cloud that made their feet disappear while they moved around the dance floor together.

AtoZ also supplied the guests with sparklers to form an arch for the newly-weds to walk through as they left to drive away.

Everything was ready when the couple realised that the taxi they had booked had not turned up.

“We just walked really slowly,” Lauren said, “and took time to say goodbye to all our guests individually.

“By the time we had spoken to everyone the taxi had arrived, so it actually made the evening even more special, rather than being a drama.”

The couple honeymooned on Phillip Island as, for a long time, Jacob had been promising to take Lauren to see the penguins and to show her the island where he grew up.

Lauren thought that making good on his promise would be a great way to start their married life.
