Family and friends, who had gathered at The Aussie Hotel to celebrate the engagement of Jade Gurnick and Jake Coburn, were surprised and excited when it was revealed the couple had married earlier that day. Glorious autumn leaves framed the open chapel at Byrchendale for the intimate afternoon ceremony.
Pops of colour
Splashes of red in Jade’s bouquet matched her Chuck Taylor shoes and created the perfect pop of colour to contrast her gorgeous white gown. “We both wear Chucks all the time so it was natural to us to wear them and have our best man and maid-of-honour wear them as well. It added a little bit of fun and personality (and colour) into what can be sometimes a very formal day,” Jade said.
A gleaming black Lincoln Continental transported the bride and groom on their special day. The car belonged to a close friend and was symbolic of the couple’s love story, which began when they met through mutual friends and their mutual love of cars.
During a hiking trip to Halls Gap, Jade and Jake paused to look at the sunset – and Jade decided it was the perfect time to ask Jake to marry her. “Jake said ‘yes’ and started going through his backpack and I said ‘don’t you want the ring?’ and he said ‘will you be my forever and always?’ as he pulled out a ring for me. Turned out we both had planned to ask one another but I got in first,” Jade said.
