A picturesque property wedding

By Bride and Groom 13 May 2019

Despite growing up less than 30 km from each other, Charlotte Grant and Jack Bowmaker had to wait until their first week of university to cross paths. Four years later, the couple exchanged vows under an old gum tree in a romantic sunlit ceremony.

Farm setting

The groom’s family farm in Dookie has always held a special place in Charlotte and Jack’s relationship. “It is a very special spot for both of us and we hope to come back to Dookie when we’re finished studying,” Charlotte said. With the ceremony held under a whimsical gum tree with sweeping views of the property they added rustic touches to the marquee reception to fit the country setting, including peppercorn branches foraged from the farm.

A short engagement

Under the guise of a surprise graduation celebration for Charlotte, Jack organised both of their families to meet at Tallis Wines, Dookie. After toasting her university achievements, he proposed ‘one more thing’ getting down on one knee as local musicians performed Hallelujah. Just over four months later, the pair said ‘I do’. The bride said it was the support of their families and friends that made their meaningful day possible with such short notice. “We weren’t wanting a big wedding, we just wanted to be married,” Charlotte said.

Cherished memories

For this couple, it was the little moments that were most memorable. “Molly, the family border collie, wandered over to the ceremony, she was just as happy and smiling as we were, and was rapt with the amount of pats she got,” Charlotte said.

Don't stress the small stuff

No matter how much support you have, Charlotte said wedding planning could be stressful. “I found that reflecting on my relationship with Jack and concentrating on the commitment we were making really helped put the finer details into perspective,” she said.
