Not one, but two, extreme events threatened the carefully-laid wedding plans of Lauren Schade and Daniel Lambden, but with some quick changes they embraced their special day at Morrisons Winery. An erupting Balinese volcano derailed their honeymoon plans in the week leading up to their December 1 wedding date, and extreme rainfall on the first day of summer meant the planned outdoor ceremony was replaced with an undercover service.
“We got married on the wettest day in history. The roads were flooded, the river overflowing and our outdoor wedding quickly became undercover,” Lauren said. “Enjoy every moment, even the things that don’t go according to plan! At the end of the day you are getting married to the love of your life so nothing else matters. Have fun and dance ’til your feet hurt.”
Grey skies but not hearts
The storm-grey colour of the bridesmaids’ dresses proved prophetic for the extreme rainfall event that occurred on the wedding day, and were the perfect complement to the bride’s white lace gown with train and diamante belt. Rustic bouquets of David Austin and cluster roses, blushing bride, wax flower and trailing greenery added a classic touch.
A relationship that blossomed after meeting through mutual friends, in their home town of Rushworth, was cemented with a marriage proposal in the Yarra Valley. Daniel organised a long weekend extravaganza for his future bride, planning a stay at Crown in Melbourne, lunch at Chandon and, as the sun set on a perfect day, a surprise proposal at St Huberts Winery.
