Free-spirited festivities

By Bride and Groom 10 September 2018

Having spent 12 years together, Prue Cruickshanks and Matty Carrafa didn’t care for wedding day rules. Instead they threw one hell of a party, finally taking the plunge in a style that truly reflected them and their young family.

Floating down Eli Creek on Fraser Island on a family holiday with their three daughters, a proposal was the last thing Prue expected.

“I laughed at first; I didn’t believe it and I took ages to say yes,” Prue said.

With music, family and laidback fun leading the way, the couple planned a celebration that felt more like a mini river getaway.

For the outdoor lovers, Hide and Seek Winery at Kirwans Bridge was the perfect backdrop.

“We wanted a very relaxed, chilled day where we and our guests could enjoy the scenery, food, drinks, tunes and good company,” Prue said.

Dressed to party in a lace mini dress and killer heels with a simple flower crown in her hair, Prue made an entrance on the back of a Harley Davidson.

The pair said ‘I do’ in an intimate ceremony on the banks of the Goulburn River with daughters Lily, Tori and Macy by their side.

“We’re both so very proud of our girls for doing a reading,” Prue said.

“They smashed it and to have their involvement throughout the entire day was priceless.”

Letting the scenery do the talking, Prue and Matty kept it natural – peppering the venue with flowers and a dusting of boho vibes with mismatched floral bridesmaids’ dresses.

“Because the bridesmaids’ dresses were only $20 I bought two of each and got my mum to make up the shorts for the girls,” Prue said.

When it came to feeding their tribe Prue said they wanted casual, no-fuss food.

“We had finger food and souvlaki for main and then Nutella donuts for dessert plus a cake made by Matt’s mum,” she said.

“It wasn’t anything fancy at all.”
