A wheat field on the shores of Greens Lake at Corop set the scene for Kayla Humphries and Jason Palmer’s rural nuptials. With both growing up on the land, there was never any doubt they would say a sentimental ‘I do’ in a paddock.
For the farmers, their property Locktay had been home to many happy memories, including the moment Jason caught Kayla off-guard, proposing while they drenched cattle.
Just three days from their wedding they cut out the middle of a wheat crop to create a magical ceremony space.
But only minutes before Kayla was to walk down the aisle, the dark clouds overhead turned to rain.
Determined to be married in the beautiful spot dotted with simple timber bench seats and a gorgeous greenery arbour, they waited it out.
“We didn’t speak, but we both knew it was going to pass,” Kayla said.
“Then the sun came out and it couldn’t have been any more beautiful.
“We had about 100 swallows flying around behind us during the ceremony. It was absolutely unbelievable.”
For Kayla and Jason it was important to put their own spin on their special day, designing a modern marquee reception also surrounded by crops and lake views.
With a palette of blush, navy and rose gold they created moody, romantic vibes from the stunningly sophisticated table settings and a plethora of candles to on-trend acrylic signs and native blooms.
The bridal table payed homage to Kayla’s family farm, with a cotton installation lit up with festoon lighting.
“It was very meaningful for Dad, he really appreciated it and some of the guests had never seen cotton before,” she said.
While outdoors under the moonlight there were lounge areas for guests to relax, including an element inspired by the newlywed’s travels – a love swing similar to one Kayla and Jason had seen in Bali.
