It was a modern-day romance that swept Mickala Thomas and Malcolm Brady off their feet. Mickala never imagined the first man she met on Tinder would be her perfect match, but four years later the pair was married in an emotion-packed day.
A photographer by trade, Mickala knew she wanted loved ones to be in the moment as she married Malcolm. So they asked their celebrant to announce their desire for no photography. “I believe you should be sitting down and enjoying the moment,” Mickala said. “I could see everyone’s faces, everyone just cracked up laughing and there was a lot of crying.”
Sharing a beer
Only moments before the ceremony Mickala, her bridesmaids, brother, future brothers-in-law and parents stopped for a drink at the Star Hotel just across from the wharf. Mickala said the pit stop helped calm the nerves. “We all sat at the bar and had a beer whilst everyone was waiting for me to walk down the aisle,” she said.
During the ceremony Malcolm got down on one knee, vowing always to be there for Mickala’s six-year-old daughter and presenting her with a ring. “Phoenix, today I’m marrying your mum but I’m also getting a daughter,” Malcolm said. Mickala said it was a complete surprise to Phoenix and an emotional moment for everyone including their son, Tex.
A wedding day is over in the blink of an eye and to ensure they could cherish those fleeting moments forever, the couple got cinemaographer Little Cinema on board. “I wanted to see the stuff that I may have missed on the day and be able to relive the moments,” Mickala said.
