A magical day

By Bride and Groom 10 August 2018

A shared love of music led to Lauren Nisbet and Luke Hamilton’s chance meeting at the 3630 Festival in Shepparton in 2011. On that day the Angus and Julia Stone song Big Jet Plane was playing and it has since become their signature song; so it was the obvious choice for their first dance as husband and wife.

A touch of pink

Navy bridesmaids’ dresses and the navy groomsmen suits were the perfect contrast for Lauren’s accent colour of varied pink hues. Stunning bouquets featured beautiful blooms in different shades of pink from pastels to deep burgundy, and the three-tiered wedding cake featured cascades of similar flowers. Hand-made decorations used at the ceremony also had splashes of pink, and these were kindly crafted by the bride’s aunt.

Family ties

Celebrating family was important to the couple, who incorporated unique ways of acknowledging familial weddings on their special day. Lauren was photographed in her mother’s wedding gown prior to leaving for the ceremony and was delighted to carry a blue horseshoe, given to her aunt by the bride’s mother on her wedding day - as the tradition of ‘something blue’. “We also had photos of our parents and grandparents, on their wedding days, displayed at the reception,” Lauren said.

Romantic moments

Standing in front of their family and friends, holding hands and reciting the personal vows they had written for each other was a moment Lauren will never forget. “I also really loved the time we spent together when we had our formal photos done, as it felt really romantic. When the photographers asked us to just walk and talk to each other, we were able to chat about how each other’s day had been up until now.”

Small blessings

The roles of flowergirls were filled by a cousin and the daughters of the couple’s close friends. “Their role was mainly to just walk down the aisle, but I knew that it may not happen as they were all so young! Luke and I didn’t mind whether they ended up walking down the aisle or not though – we were just happy to have them as part of our day,” Lauren said.
