When Melissa Kennett and Jason McMahon partnered for the 2010 McGuire College debutant ball they had no idea they were destined to spend the rest of the lives together.
Nor that seven years later the very same dance instructor would teach them the bridal waltz they would perform at their wedding.
Country and western
With a mutual love of all things country, it was only natural Melissa and Jason’s wedding was a rustic, cowboy-inspired affair.
From the bridesmaids’ cowboy boots to the groomsmen’s Akubras, Melissa said Billabong Ranch was the ideal venue for their low-key nuptials.
“We handmade a lot of our own decorations and used a lot of jars and wood just to give it that real authentic, rustic country look,” Melissa said.
After bringing them closer together early in their relationship, there was no doubt that country music would play a big role in Melissa and Jason’s special day.
Forever and For Always by Shania Twain has always been the couple’s song and Melissa said that made it simple to pick the perfect soundtrack for her walk down the aisle.
“We both love country music and have connected over it,” she said.
Melissa was almost ready to say yes to the dress when her sister made a timely discovery on a Facebook swap and sell page.
“I had a few styles in mind and then my sister came across it and it was the same dress I had been looking at for months,” she said.
“It was perfect, it was meant to be.”
Every year they have been together, Jason has given Melissa a dozen red roses on their anniversary and Valentine’s Day.
It was only fitting they continued this tradition on their wedding day with red rose bouquets and archway.
The rustic signage added a personal touch to Melissa and Jason's day.
