At a private property overlooking Kow Swamp, Emily Gemmill and Benjamin Coote opted out of traditional wedding formalities.
Instead, the laidback couple drew inspiration from worldly travels to create a relaxed festival atmosphere and said ‘I do’ in a bohemian-meets-Scandinavian-style celebration.
The focus of Emily and Benjamin’s April nuptials was spending time with loved ones who travelled from near and far.
Picking the perfect paddock as their sole location provided freedom for them to mark their marriage in their own way and without time restraints.
This freedom also extended to their guests, who were given the option of camping.
“The best part was having all our friends and family in the one spot and getting to laugh, dance and catch up with everyone,” Emily said.
“Ben and I got to spend extra time together on the day with having our photos done before the wedding. This made it really fun and relaxed, and we spent the most part laughing and joking with everyone that was there.”
Teepee tents set the scene for the reception, with informal seating channeling the newlyweds’ wanderlust.
There were bean bags like those they discovered in a Peruvian pub, and swinging from the trees were macramé chair hammocks similar to those they spotted in Nicaragua.
Adding to the festival vibe, they opted against a sit-down meal in favour of a taco truck.
The Mo Bar served up drinks and the guests helped themselves to the mojito bar or a glass of wine from a bicycle cooler.
Emily’s sophisticated long-sleeve dream dress and DIY timber décor features shaped the scandi style.
