A surprise birthday proposal

By Bride and Groom 04 August 2017

It was a birthday Amanda Tharratt will never forget when Travis Fita took her on a blindfolded adventure, hinting that they were about to purchase a puppy. When the blindfold was taken off she was surprised to find no sign of a puppy, but instead Travis got down on one knee in front of the church where she had always dreamed of getting married.

An improvised entrance

The couple fell in love with St Paul’s Milawa at first sight, but the small country church did not have a traditional aisle. Instead of saying farewell to a childhood dream, Travis waited at the church steps while Amanda walked down the pathway lined with friends and family before entering the church. Amanda said it was the highlight of the day. “Dad was making funny comments beside me, I have never smiled so hard,” she said. “Then I looked at Trav, and just burst into tears — I was so happy to see him.”

Simple stems

With Amanda being a florist, flowers were always going to take centre stage when it came to styling. Creating an elegant yet rustic theme, the couple decorated the church with buckets of fresh blossoms, hessian and lace bows. Tying the day together, the reception featured hessian and lace table runners with clusters of small vases of flowers and succulents.

Tightknit family

The big day was a family affair and Amanda said it was important to have those closest to them involved in the celebrations. “I had my siblings perform Amazing Grace during the ceremony which was a really special moment,” she said. Amanda’s sister Shannon made the wedding cake, while her boss created the bouquets and cake topper using a mix of gorgeous spring flowers.
