Love takes centre stage

By Jessica Ball 20 July 2017

It wasn't exactly love at first sight when Jessica Wills and Angus Wells met on their first day of primary school; but 18 years later the high school sweet hearts tied the knot. With the young couple’s love taking centre stage, they were unfazed when their September wedding didn't go off without a hitch.

Purple haze

Jessica’s obsession with flowers and the colour purple meant there was never a doubt in her mind of what the wedding colour-scheme should be. From the purple rose button-holes and an arch decorated with purple flowers, to mauve bridesmaid dresses and garland centerpieces, the bride got her wish.

A moment in time

Capturing a “first-look” – where the groom gets to see his bride before the rest of the wedding attendees – may do away with tradition, but Jessica said it was her favourite part of their wedding day. “There were a lot of things (that went) wrong but when I saw the way he looked at me for the first time, it made it all worth it,” she said. “I knew how much he loved me by the look on his face.”

From the heart

Music played an important role in the day with Jessica singing a song for Angus while he dedicated one to her. After their first dance to Far Away by Nickelback, the bride not only enjoyed a father-daughter dance but also a mother-daughter dance – which she said reduced her to tears. “Far Away has been our song since we were 15 at the beginning of our relationship…it has always stuck with us and been special to us,” Jessica said.

Jessica and Angus’ special day didn't exactly go to plan, with the spot they had chosen for their ceremony flooding on the eve of the wedding. But after a slight location change to higher ground the day went on. “No matter how organised you are, things will go wrong,” Jessica said. “Just accept the fact and move on and try not to yell at everyone who tells you to relax.”
