There’s no moment more romantic than saying ‘I do’ and slipping a wedding ring onto the finger of your husband or wife.
It’s a tradition as old as time, and one with a quick romantic backstory as well.
Before anatomy was studied thoroughly, it was believed that there was a vein that leads from our ring finger directly to our heart.
Labelled vena amoris in Latin, which loosely translates to the vein of love, the belief was that by putting a ring on that finger a couple would symbolically declare their eternal and undying love for each other.
Coupled with the circular, and therefore never ending, nature of a ring, it was believed that these two symbols together would lead to a love that would never end and a long and happy marriage for the couple.
